6 Key Trends For This A/W 2015

Now playing: “London Thunder” by Foals

As if the fashion retailers haven’t made it blatant enough what their core inspiration for their autumn and winter collections is – we get it, you have a thing for the 70’s – I’ve selected some of the key pieces that are sure to lead the way this season (all images vogue.com/fashion-shows).

  1. The Luxe Heeled Sock Boot

As seen at: Christian Dior, Givenchy

These sleek, almost second-skin  go-go boots are some kind of ingenious sock-boot hybrid, and I love them. Marching their way towards high-street domination, tons of Raf-influenced pairs are already at the likes of Zara or Topshop.

2) The Perennial Roll Neck

As seen at: J.W. Anderson, Barbara Casasola, Victoria Beckham

Ah, the enduring appeal of the polo neck. A timeless classic. Pair with anything – underneath a slip dress, or think clean and directional with wide-leg trousers or culottes…

3. The Culotte / Wide-leg trouser

As seen at: Derek Lam, Opening Ceremony

…which goes onto my next key autumn buy, the wide-leg trouser and the culotte. Whilst there’s no doubt culottes aren’t the easiest vêtement to pull off, I think they are wearable, even as the days get colder – layer it up with wool jumpers, leaving you the perfect above-the-ankle hemline to show off your new It-boots. Too scared to go for the culotte? Go for some wide-leg trousers, and look for a pair with a cropped hemline to avoid floor-drag / the teacher-y look (unless you have long legs, in which case, lucky you!).

4. The Sleeveless Jacket

As seen at: Theory, Acne Studios, Rag & Bone

Who said coats needed sleeves anyway? The designers did! (The question was supposed to be rhetorical, but I ended up answering it anyway) Directional and sleek, bare your arms on a warmer day, or layer on top of your favourite leather biker jacket for an instant update.

5. Suede, Suede, Suede

As seen at: Loewe, Derek Lam

Again, another blatant nod to the 70s, suede is great – just make sure you don’t go out in the rain with it.

6. Deep, Plunging Necklines and Long, Sweeping Maxis

As seen at: Chloé, Céline, Valentino

Brave it this season with deep V-necks that show off the chest. Strobing your face? Why not add a touch of baby / shimmer oil to your décolletage for that glow-from-within look.

What are you all hoping to buy this season?
